Metalwork, pipes, wire, metal profile, metal details, fasteners, tools, housewares. In H1 2017, the share of metalworking in overall Russian exports reached $3 billion

Metalworking provides us with many different products, be it single parts or billets, rolled non-ferrous metal items or even complete pieces, such as railroad or car bridges.

For example, a part of metalwork products is shipped abroad as car parts and parts for agricultural equipment and machines – and thus they are classified as goods of the machine engineering industry.

Metalworking plays a significant role in transport engineering, which manufactures many products for export. The EVRAZ metallurgical holding is one of the examples of Russian enterprises who successfully work in foreign markets; it is also the main supplier of rails for Russian Railways.  In a matter of just two years, EVRAZ kick-started its exports, coming from 0 to 100,000 tons – and it is not going to hit the brakes.

Today, EVRAZ ships rails to Latin America, South-East Asia and Africa; it is also working its way to the markets of India, Europe and the Middle East. Moreover, Nizhniy Tagil Iron and Steel Plant, part of the EVRAZ Group, has started exporting rails to Georgia for the construction of the Tbilisi metro.

Russian metal parts are widely used in manufacturing abroad, for example, the VSMPO-AVISMA corporation, which is part of the Rostech Corporation, supplies titanium forgings to Boeing and Airbus for aircraft engineering. Other companies, for instance, those that offer rolled aluminium, also ship their products to various foreign aircraft engineering companies.

Chepetsky Mechanical Plant, part of the ROSATOM state corporation, provides leading European car manufacturers with titanium and titanium-alloy parts. Among its clients are Jaguar, Land Rover, AMG, Ferrari, and even the legendary Formula 1 manufacturer – McLaren.

The geographical presence of Russian metalworking products is quite vast. More than a third of all exported goods go to the CIS countries (35 percent), 25 percent go to Eastern Europe and 14 percent to Western Europe, while the Middle East and Northern Africa see 10 percent and 9 percent accordingly.
